Security, Survival, Fear and the Connection with the Base Chakra

This pandemic has ignited fear and panic all over world. We’re experiencing loss in many forms, whether it be through loss of identity, connection, family, community or the death of a loved one. We’re in survival fight or flight and our adrenal systems are in a constant state of hyper-vigilance. A recurring theme that has appeared during my Kinesiology sessions throughout the pandemic is the Base Chakra.

Chakras are energy centres with their own individual characteristics, that support our physiology. Chakras are responsible for the energetic exchange between people and how we interact with the world. When chakras show stress during a Kinesiology session, it provides information on the characteristics of the stress and the type of energy is causing the imbalance.

The qualities associated with the Base or Root Chakra are identity, security, community, family, belonging, survival, health, trust, feeling grounded and the predominant emotion is fear. This energy system supports our adrenal system, which determines how we manage and respond to stress in our lives. When stress shows in the Base Chakra, it’s evident the characteristics of the chakra need further exploration, which will help support the client’s internal response systems and provide an opportunity for self-awareness and growth. We don’t have much control over the external circumstances; however, we can transform our inner world, which will determine how we perceive and respond to these events.

How to strengthen your Base Chakra energy to support your survival response

Here’s some tips on how you can support your Base Chakra energy centre to strengthen your survival response to these challenging times of financial hardship, disconnect and uncertainty.

Exercise

Get your body moving. Release the tense and stagnate energy in the body. Some forms of yoga are gentle and specifically support your chakras.

More love less fear

Bring more love into your world. Now more than ever we need to do what we can to reduce our excessive exposure to states of fear. Fear ignites the survival fight or flight response which impacts our mental processing and prevents us from seeing the bigger picture. Bring yourself out of that state through doing things you love that make you feel good. Choose to reduce your exposure until you have more strength to be with that energy of fear from a more compassionate place.

Explore deeper

Do you feel comfortable in your skin? Do you handle stressful situations well? Do you feel safe? If your answer to all of these is NO, then work with a Kinesiologist to explore these feelings. There will be patterns, fears, past experiences, belief systems and emotions that are contributing to your current state of health. Emotions, thoughts, experiences influence our physical, so it’s important to explore these elements of health. If your fears stem from traumatic experiences, you can seek out a Kinesiologist with experience in trauma work to receive more specialised support. The benefits of Kinesiology are that through muscle monitoring and biofeedback, it is you determining what you’re ready to look at to heal.

Outdated family belief patterns

What belief patterns have you carried through from your family upbringing that no longer serve you anymore? As the Base Chakra is developed during our early years of life and is associated with our sense of belonging, tribe and community, it may be holding onto belief systems that may not align with who you are now.

Self-Nurturance

Nurture your body with good nutrition. There’s a wealth of knowledge from books or get more targeting advice from a naturopath. Good dietary advice, vitamin support and herbs can provide that support on a physical level.

Fear of letting go and unhealthy attachments

Our most painful experiences are our biggest teachers, however sometimes letting go of these experiences can be challenging. It requires us to let go of something, whether that be a person, a belief system or how we see ourselves. An inability to let go may mean there is more you need to learn about yourself from that experience. Exploring these emotions through energy work can help shift the energetic block and help you see the situation from a different perspective.

Attitudes with money and security

The Base Chakra is our connection with the Earth. Money is an Earth element but also a form of energy and our relationship with it can be explored through working with this chakra. A blocked Base Chakra, as a result of limited belief systems surrounding money and security, interferes with our ability to receive from the Earth. The financial loss for a large majority of people during this pandemic has been beyond anyone’s control and no one should blame themselves for the position they’re in, however it still presents an opportunity to examine their situation and any fears or attitudes around money and security. Do you feel deserving of it? What was your family’s relationship with money? Consciously you’re working towards getting more of it, but your unconscious programming is sabotaging your success. Base chakra is also about how we treat and respect the Earth. I believe on a global scale this pandemic is an opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the Earth and how we interact with it. I would love to see a shift in consciousness where we start valuing it and working with it.

Get out of your head

Find ways to get out of your head and into your body, particularly grounding yourself. Feel the ground under your feet. Envision your body planted solidly to the Earth.

Incorporate the colour red into your life

If the energy of the Base Chakra is depleted, which can be determined during a Kinesiology session, wearing or working with red can help support the energy of this chakra.

How Kinesiology helps support your survival response through strengthening your Base Chakra energy

During a Kinesiology session the Base Chakra may need a quick exploration or a more in-depth focus, delving into all emotions, anatomy and spiritual components of the chakra. Through muscle monitoring your body will guide me as the practitioner what the stress is, where its located and what needs to happen to diffuse the stress and bring you back into balance. We may need to explore Neuro-emotional Pathways (NEPS), which tunes into the brain pathways that are triggered depending on the emotional response. Whether it’s fear, rage, panic, confusion, play, long or short-term stress response etc Kinesiology can follow these pathways, on an energetic level, and diffuse stress impacting the natural flow and emotional processing of these pathways. For Base Chakra related issues, fear may be the dominant pathway that needs stress diffusion, however we let your body determine the direction during the session.
