How to Support Your Solar Plexus Chakra

Qualities of Solar Plexus Chakra

The qualities of a balanced Solar Plexus Chakra

A balanced solar plexus chakra connects you with your inner power, self-confidence, and a strong sense of purpose. You feel comfortable in the company of others and any criticism washes over you like water off a duck’s back. You’re proud of your achievements and don’t seek external validation from others. You have clear boundaries and the ability to say ‘no’ to people or situations that don’t feel right. You feel safe to trust yourself, others and are decisive. You know how to care for yourself and others. You have energy to go for what you want in life and achieve your dreams.

An unbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra may manifest as:

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Confidence issues

  • Lack of respect for self or others

  • Disempowerment

  • Lack of purpose

  • Low energy

  • Lack of vitality

  • Trust issues

  • Lack of care for self or others

  • Controlling, manipulative or aggressive tendencies

  • Sensitivity to criticism

  • Dependant on acknowledgement from others

  • Gastrointestinal issues

Archetypes and the Solar Plexus Chakra

Archetypes are universal patterns we play out. Each archetype has both a light and shadow side. Awareness of the type of archetype/pattern we are stuck in helps us move from the disempowered shadow side to the more empowered quality. Patterns may show up as a reoccurring situation, unhealthy relationship, health issue etc. These life experiences and the patterns we play out are there to show us where we may be blocking our self-growth. Becoming aware of these patterns, gives us choice on whether we continue to play out these limiting patterns, or learn from their teachings. To learn more about the light and shadow aspects of each archetype, see Caroline Myss Archetypes Gallery.

The following exploration of the archetypes in relation to the solar plexus chakra is sourced from Chakras and Their Archetypes by Ambika Wauters. This may help you get further clarity on the current pattern you may be stuck in and the qualities of a more empowered functional archetype to develop. Ambika Wauters has identified certain archetypes relevant to the qualities of each main chakra, which provides further insight into understanding limiting patterns impacting your energy systems and how to change that.

Dysfunctional Archetype for the Solar Plexus Chakra: Servant

We embody the servant archetype when we undervalue ourselves and lack self-worth. As a child we may have grown up in an environment where we learnt that someone else’s needs were more important than our own. We found ourselves in situations where we were neglected or not given acknowledgement for our good work. Since we’re unable to acknowledge our own worth, we were dependant on it from others, which gave our power away. We lack a strong sense of self, which formed weak boundaries, allowing negative and manipulative people and situations into our lives.

Functional Archetype for the Solar Plexus Chakra: Warrior

Our inner warrior is expressed when we value ourselves, have confidence, honour our needs and have the courage to go after what we want in life. It takes confidence to walk our path, particularly in the face of criticism, opposition, or judgement. Learning to make decisions, take risks and push through fear, will help you embody the warrior archetype. Self-love, self-care and self-nurturance will lead you away from the ‘servant’ to the ‘warrior’. A healthy warrior archetype is about ensuring your needs are just as important as other people in your life. You’re equal and feel safe to express your truth in a respectful and considerate way, listening and honouring each other’s needs.

How to support your Solar Plexus Chakra

  • Do something courageous. Find an activity that puts you out of your comfort zone and challenges you.

  • Learn something new. Study, learn a new craft, begin something that you’ve always wanted to do.

  • Think about what you want in life and make decisions on what you need to do to get it. Create a vision board. Do daily affirmations to re-train your brain.

  • Support your body with good nutrition. Make healthy food choices or seek a naturopath or nutritionist for more specialised dietary needs. Supporting your body physically through good nutrition will support the strengthening of this energy centre. If you find making good food choices challenging, continuing working on the emotional components of the Solar Plexus through self-empowerment, confidence, courage, self-worth and self-love, this will begin to transform your relationship with food. Known as our second brain, our gut functions due to our enteric nervous system, which is independent from our central nervous system. Research is showing the link between gut health and neurological diseases.

  • Do a sport, get active, do something adventurous.

  • Say no to things, people or events that you don’t feel comfortable doing. It’s ok to say no. Learn to listen to your body and your needs. Get your energy moving and ignite that inner fire.

  • Wear more yellow or violet. If you feel you lack confidence, vitality or empowerment, include more yellow in your life. If you feel you tend to have more controlling energy and dominate or potentially humiliate others when feeling insecure or threatened, you may need more violet in your life. Go with what colour feels right intuitively.

  • Positive affirmations – help you re-wire your old beliefs with new ones. Repeat regularly, write them down, post them somewhere to view regularly. If specific affirmations showed during your session with me, repeat these daily. Below are some more general affirmations relevant to supporting the Solar Plexus chakra.

I love me. I am lovable. I am loving.

I own my power. I am powerful and passionate

I am courageous. I do courageous things.

I lovingly connect to my passion and purpose.

I value my contribution and honour my worth.

I’m confident making decisions that determine my life path.

I have the power to remove myself from negative and harmful situations.

I allow myself to become stronger and more alive each day.
